The Buick Open and Michigan High Schools Work Together To Raise Money For School Programs and Charity

GRAND BLANC, MI - The Buick Open, Michigan's only PGA Tour event, is busy working with high schools throughout Michigan to raise funds for school programs and Buick Open charities. The Buick Open High School Fundraising Program, which involves the sale of Buick Open tickets, raised more than $140,000 in 2006, bringing the total donated since the program's launch in 2003 to more than $330,000. The schools receive 50 percent of the proceeds, while the remaining 50 percent of the funds are donated to Buick Open charities.

The 2006 Buick Open high School Fundraising program involves 2,500 students from 56 Michigan schools - from Bad Axe to Petoskey, Niles to St. Clair Shores. The program involves golf, basketball and baseball teams; school bands and sports booster clubs. Nearly 100 schools have participated in the program over the past four years.

"The Buick Open is excited to be involved in this unique program that benefits high schools and Buick Open charities," said Buick Open tournament director Mike Mattucci. "It provides the schools with an effective way to raise money for their programs and enables us to donate additional funds to worthy organizations in Southeastern Michigan."

For the fourth consecutive year, Michigan's high schools were given the opportunity to sell Buick Open tickets as a fundraiser. The schools receive $10 for each $20 ticket sold to the 2006 Buick Open. As an added incentive, the schools compete for rewards, including Buick Open Any day and clubhouse tickets and Nike.com gift certificates.

The Buick Open charities also receive $10 for each $20 ticket sold by the high schools. Among the charities receiving proceeds are the Easter Seals of Michigan, the American Red Cross, Whaley Children's Center, and the American Lung Association of Michigan.

Buick donated a record $764,000 to the Buick Open charities through proceeds from the 2005 Buick Open. Buick has donated more than $33 million to local charities through its PGA Tour events since 1982.
