TV COVERAGE OF BUICK'S PGA TOUR EVENTS SET FOR 2003
DETROIT - Each of Buick 's three title-sponsored
PGA Tour events will be nationally televised in 2003.
Buick's season got underway in February as Buick Touring
Pro Tiger Woods returned to tournament action following a
two-month layoff. Woods captured his second career Buick Invitational
title at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif., his
second consecutive Buick championship (2002 Buick Open). The
early rounds (Feb. 13-14) were viewed on the USA Network,
while the weekend action (Feb. 15-16) was covered by CBS Sports.
The final round (6.9) saw a 92% ratings increase over 2002.
In June, Chris Smith will look to make it two consecutive
wins at the Buick Classic at Westchester Country Club in Harrison,
New York. USA Network will carry the opening rounds (June
19-20), while ABC will broadcast the weekend action (June
21-22).
Buick Touring Pro Tiger Woods can become the first player
since Tony Lema ('64,'65) to win two consecutive Buick Open
titles if he defends his crown at the 2003 Buick Open at Warwick
Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. USA Network
will cover the first two rounds (July 31, Aug. 1), while CBS
Sports will broadcast the weekend action (August 2,3). Saturday's
CBS coverage of the 2002 Buick Open was the highest rated
(3.7) third round coverage in tournament history.
